Comfortable village house with private garden, in Provence, near the Pont du Gard sleeps 6/7 people. Situated in the centre of a lively village in an area abounding with good wine, markets,rivers for swimming & canoeing, sunshine & festivals.
The semi-detached house is comfortable, tastefully & practically furnished. It has an enormous ground floor garage providing plenty of off street parking & gives on to the centre of the village. There is a small garden & patio providing space for eating, sunbathing & barbecueing, accessed through the garage.
Accommodation
The house has 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 to 7 people, a large kitchen/dining room, a very large lounge with dining table, and a bathroom with separate toilet.
The Kitchen is all electric with cooker (4 rings), fridge freezer, washing machine & micro wave & other gadgets. A table seating 6 is handy for informal eating. A large window looks out on to the centre of the village & the newly renovated façade of the ‘Mairie’. An old clock tower & vestiges of the walled mediaeval ramparts are also visible from the kitchen window. It is well equipped for those who like to cook & well provided with crockery & cutlery.
The Salon is large & well lit with French windows opening onto a tiny balcony giving a good view of the centre of the village. It has comfortable chairs, a dining table & chairs for 6 people for more formal occasions, an attractive traditional fireplace, T.V. & video player & music centre.
The Bathroom has a bath with shower fitting, washbasin & bidet & there is a separate W.C..
The Three Double Bedrooms overlook the rear of the property & the garden, away from the centre of the village. One bedroom has a washbasin, the largest bedroom has two single beds that can be made into a large double bed & the third bedroom has a double bed & a small bed settee for a seventh person if required.
The Garden has a mature olive tree & mulberry tree both offering some shade. The original circular stone from the olive press has been converted into a patio table. There is plenty of space in the garden for relaxing on the sun beds, cooking on the barbecue and eating ‘al fresco’ on the patio with table & chairs for 6 & umberella for extra shade if needed.
There is an oil fired central heating system to heat the house in Winter months but a supplement is required for this. Kitchen towels, tablecloths & serviettes are included in the rental but bedding & towels are not included. They can be hired for 10 euro per person, this includes beds making, hand & shower towels providing & laundering at end of stay. Long Winter lets are possible at a reduced rate. Change over date negotiable to accommodate
people taking cheap flights.
The house was originally part of a large farm building dated 1876 with an olive press on the ground floor & silk worms & silk manufacture on the first floor. It is situated in the centre of the charmingly unspoilt & attractive village of St.Hilaire D’Ozilhan near Uzés, & is a lively agricultural community in the thriving Cotes du Rhone area & surrounded by vineyards. The main activity of the village is wine production & there is a large cooperative as well as 2 domains producing their own wine, one just by the house. The village is easily accessed from the A9 auto route (Exit 23 Rémoulins) with the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct visible from points in the village & only 4 kms away. The mediaeval town of Uzés is on the door step & Nimes, Avignon, Orange & Arles nearby.

Out and About
St. Hilaire D’Ozilhan has a mediaeval centre with a 15th century church & the first floor of the house, though in a quiet street, has a view of the original rampart tower. On the outskirts of the village there is an ancient wash-house, well maintained, the restored ruins of an 11th century chapel, ‘La Clastre’, local wine having taken its name & the village is full of remarkable & interesting houses, many being painstakingly restored. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, vineyards, peach & apricot orchards, asparagus fields, olive groves & wild ‘herbes de Provence’. There are various events during the year, held in the village the most renowned of which is a 1st of May craft fair.
The village has a boulangerie, bar & small ‘bimbloterie’. There is a Logis de France Hotel ‘L’Arceau’ & a tiny market on Tuesday mornings. It is 3 kms to the local town (flat for bikers!)Rémoulins, with supermarkets, garages, banks, pharmacists, doctors, dentists & a Friday morning market.
The village is very close to the river Gardon with its famous Roman aqueduct & museum.
The river is ideal for swimming, canoeing & walking & interesting for lovers of wildlife. St. Hilaire is also conveniently situated for visiting Roman remains including Nimes, Arles, Orange, the mediaeval town of Avignon with its Popes Palace, the gorges of the Ardeche, well known for canoeing, the marshes of the Camargues with its wild horses, the wilds of the Cevennes & the seaside resorts which abound. It is excellent for local markets, Uzés with its renowned Saturday market & the Wednesday market of St Rémy de Provence being famous! The village is outstandingly situated for any lovers of Cotes du Rhone wine & the whole area abounds in caves for wine tasting including Chateau Neuf du Pape & Tavel
